Hey, you want to see something a little embarrassing? It’s a project I made and documented during my senior year of college. I broke my leg in January of that senior year and had already proposed this project to the board of the art department. I was technically on the hook to finish it, but digging through massive bags of trash while hobbling around on crutches was kinda miserable.
I was making art from trash then, and I’m embarking on another project to make art from trash once again. Things always come back around.
Anyway, here’s the video, please enjoy 21 year Bekka trying to take myself very seriously!!
We cleaned out the house a few weeks ago and I paged through some old sketchbooks as I was clearing my studio closet. These same shapes come up from notebooks as far back as 2009.
Lastly, what came as a complete surprise to me, a bit of a magazine woven right into this sketchbook from 2016 (across the page from yet another plant-like blob drawing).
We are who we are.
Important thing!
A friend sent me a link to The Artadia Awards. Applications are open now for New York City residents, awardees recieve $15,000 in unrestricted funds!! Check the website to see if your city has an application period this year.
See you next Sunday :)

I love the woven piece. I did a lot of paper weaving (as an aspiring child artist) and I have ideas for making some projects soon. Thanks for the reminder & inspiration!
