I do not have a lot left to give this week. I’ve been writing all week preparing some applications (more on that below) and all of my writing energy is spent! I want to send something useful, so here’s a list with no coherent theme:
The Brooklyn Museum is calling all Brooklyn Artists to submit work for their 200th Anniversary exhibition. On their website, they say, “Prepare to be dazzled: the exhibition will bring together an unprecedented number of Brooklyn artists, surpassing any previous showcase in the Museum's history.” Which is a bold statement, I know I will be submitting and whether my work is accepted or not I will be visiting the show in October.

As I’m preparing applications for the two items above, I’m digging through my pile of paintings and photographing items that I want to submit. Here’s a few new ones that I have yet to show you here.
If I think too hard the easy flow comes to a halt. On the very best days I simply delight at moving the brush along paper.
As my hand rollicks across the sheet I remind myself that movement happens in the negative spaces. I focus on the white of the paper and let the brush reveal the rest. The physical painting is, of course, holding quite still, but the image carries its own rhythm long after the painting process is complete.
Finished reading Tom Lake by Ann Patchett this week, it’s a delight

I am grateful when artists are willing to do deep dives like this, breaking down all of the steps and frustrations and ultimately wins of client projects. It’s refreshing when people are honest about the whole process!
