Shopping, for you!

50 questions to consider when starting a new creative project
I love a new project. I love when an idea catches hold of me and there’s nothing I can do to stop myself from going for it. Usually I go so hard that it ends up failing on some level because I’m so impulsive at the beginning.
I keep a neverending list of things I want to make. All sorts of things from small and quick (like little things around the house that take 2-4 hours) to entire new art practices that will hopefully last years.
A list of things I want to make now
Build a home from scratch (not with my own two hands though)
Make a little plywood table and chair for my kid
Make some kind of shade on my balcony to protect us from the sun in summer mornings
Make a bojagi curtain for my kids’ room
Make white bojagi curtains for the living room
Make sourdough bread every week and pizza on Fridays (my poor sourdough starter is pretty neglected in the back of the fridge)
Make a cool tent for my kid using our old dining table as the frame
Make a set of 10 large paintings
Tie dye some t-shirts
I really want to learn how to make nets, not sure why, but this has been on my mind for a while
I need to learn to wade into projects more slowly, especially big projects. They need time stew before jumping into full production mode. In my effort to slow down that early phase I’ve come up with this list of questions for myself in order to consider my new projects more carefully.
50 questions
What are you curious about right now?
What gets you riled up?
What do you want your life to look like in 10 years?
What things do you truly enjoy doing?
What images are you attracted to right now?
What music are you listening to?
What are your inputs?
Do those need to change to inspire a new way of being / thinking?
Are you overstimulated?
Is your project something for yourself? For your home? A gift? Or an art piece intended to show and ultimately sell?
It’s no small feat to publish every Sunday with no institutional support. I don’t get my health insurance from an employer nor do I receive the security that a traditional job provides. I believe in building a new kind of security. One that’s not reliant on a single institution but a dedicated network of supporters. Like any strong community each person only has to lift a small weight for the entire thing to succeed. Consider becoming one knot in my net. In turn, I can support more writers, artists, local restaurants, and farmers in their pursuit to build the world we want to live in.
