Simple Mending for holes in pants (or any holes!)
I’ve had these pants in my mending pile for months and finally got started at them at my local Mending Circle in June. I have a couple more holes to go so I made a short video showing you how to add a patch with sashiko stitches. Works great for pants or other items that get heavy wear and tear.

Sketchbook Gallery
A few weeks ago I mentioned the Sketchbook Gallery by artists Carolyn Yoo and Citlaflor. It’s now live (including mine!) the diversity of styles and media is stunning. The ability for humans to create their own way of doing things is infinite!

Feeding Kids
I’ve been reading
for a few months now. It’s nice to hear what other parents are going through when feeding their kids. It can be a polarizing topic as it often ties in with self-image, diet culture, bodies, and perfectionism in parenting. I enjoy these judgement free and honest looks at how and what other parents are doing in a given week. Getting three meals plus snacks on the table each and every day is no small feat! There’s a whole subset of posts called Cub Street Diet. In those ones the editors ask a guest to outline a “week in the life” type of post with all of their family meals for several days. It’s a nice format because, like all humans, sometimes they have a lot of energy to cook a big meal and sometimes they don’t! You get the whole gamut of meal types which makes it mostly relatable. Some of the parents interviewed are award winning chefs, and some are regular home cooks. I definitely don’t have the skills or energy to cook like a professional chef, so I look in awe at certain meals, and then move on.
Here’s a couple of things I found noteworthy:
Sophie Brickman on giving her kids salami everyday (and then losing sleep over a panic headline about processed foods).
Something to try: Melissa Clark’s Green Goddess Chicken (a gift link to NYTimes Cooking, you should be able to access it for free)
Nick Evans adds sprinkles to oatmeal to make it more exciting (brilliant)
Megan Ferguson packs those little almond butter packets in her kids’ lunch and I should probably go get some of those since my kids loves PB!
Clare de Boer’s cornbread with strawberries looks truly excellent (no surprise as the one meal I had at her restaurant, Stissing House, was magnificent).
